Low Friction – High Accuracy
Video Description
Low friction cylinders can provide superior performance due to their low break away forces, lack of seal wear and no lubricants being required. However, with these benefits comes increased control complexity due to blow-by across the piston and minimal friction. If overcome, the resultant system will have superior accuracy, smoothness of motion and resolution.
In the following video, we do just that, capturing the benefits of servo-pneumatic positioning using a low-friction Airpel cylinder, Enfield LS-V05s valve and C1 controller.
Over the course of the video, the cylinder is extended and retracted following a low-frequency sine wave. The resolution and accuracy of command versus feedback can be seen on the two desktop multimeters, going out to four decimal places.
